The story

Phytoceutics is the in-house South African nutraceutical brand of Coyne Healthcare, a Cape Town family business started by Kevin Coyne in 2007 and now operating under the Swiss-registered Phytoceutics International holding company since 2016. The company built its reputation distributing international names like Terranova and Similasan into South African pharmacies and practitioner channels, then launched its own Phytoceutics-branded range to apply the same standards to locally formulated supplements.

The brand's POV is straightforward: nature-derived actives, but formulated to clinical-trial benchmarks rather than folklore dosing. Each product is built around patented or research-backed ingredients (Lactospore, Bacopa BacoMind, ashwagandha KSM-66 and similar), produced to GMP standards, and aimed at the practitioner channel first. If you have seen Phytoceutics in a Dis-Chem clinic or on a functional doctor's shelf, that is by design. The brand sits closer to a pharma supplement house than a wellness label.
Nutraceuticals only work if the dose, the form, and the evidence line up. We picked the ingredients that have actually been studied at the dose we put in the capsule.
Kevin Coyne, Founder, Coyne Healthcare / Phytoceutics

What makes them different

  • 01

    Clinical Dosing

Formulas are built around the dose that appears in the published clinical trial, not the dose that lets a brand undercut on price. Where a study uses 600mg of a standardised extract, the capsule contains 600mg of that same standardised extract.

  • 02

    Patented Actives

The Phytoceutics range leans on patented, branded raw materials (KSM-66 ashwagandha, BacoMind bacopa, Lactospore probiotic) with their own clinical files behind them. This is the same sourcing model that international practitioner brands use.

  • 03

    Practitioner Channel

The brand is built for pharmacy and integrative-practice channels first, retail second. Formulas are designed to be recommended by a doctor or pharmacist who can speak to the indication, not just merchandised on a shelf.

  • 04

    Cape Town Built

Formulated and quality-controlled out of Cape Town under the Coyne Healthcare group, which has been active in South African nutraceuticals since 2005. South African phone support, South African regulatory alignment, South African stockists.

About this brand

Common questions customers ask about the brand and its products.

What is the relationship between Phytoceutics and Natroceutics?
Both brands trace back to Kevin Coyne and the Coyne Healthcare group. Coyne Healthcare distributes a portfolio of international and house brands into the South African pharmacy and practitioner channels. Phytoceutics is the group's in-house Cape Town-formulated range. Natroceutics is a separate but related South African nutraceutical brand that has historically shared management. Treat them as siblings within the same family of practitioner-grade supplements.
Are these available on prescription?
No, they are complementary medicines, sold over the counter. However, they are commonly recommended by integrative GPs, functional medicine practitioners, and clinical pharmacists. If you are working with a practitioner, bring them the label so they can review the formulation.
What does 'clinically dosed' actually mean?
It means the active ingredient is included at the same dose used in the human clinical study supporting the claim. Many supplements include trace amounts of a clinically studied ingredient to allow them to name it on the label without paying for the studied dose. Phytoceutics does the opposite, the studied dose is the dose in the capsule.
Is the range vegan and allergen-free?
It depends on the specific product. Capsule shells, gelatin sourcing, and excipients vary across the range. Check each product page for full ingredient lists. Krill Oil, for example, is marine-derived and not vegan, while Bettergut and most of the herbal range is vegan-suitable.
Where are Phytoceutics products manufactured?
Manufacturing is contracted to GMP-licensed facilities, with raw materials sourced from the patented-ingredient suppliers (Sabinsa, Verdure, Sami, others) named on the labels. Quality control, regulatory, and formulation work runs out of Cape Town.
How does Phytoceutics compare to Solgar or Now Foods?
Solgar and Now sit in the mass-market vitamin space, large catalogues, broad distribution, mostly single-ingredient SKUs. Phytoceutics sits closer to brands like Thorne or Pure Encapsulations: smaller catalogue, formulated to specific indications, dosed for clinical effect. Different shelf, different intent.
