The story

PurePharm is a South African shilajit brand started by pharmacists frustrated with the quality variance in the global shilajit market. Shilajit, a tar-like resin oozed from rocks at altitude in the Himalayan range, has a long history in Ayurvedic medicine, but the modern supplement category is full of cheaply sourced, heavy-metal-contaminated, and outright fake product. PurePharm responded with a single-SKU brand focused on one thing done properly.

The brand sources Himalayan shilajit resin from sustainable harvesting partners, then lab-tests every batch through a third party for heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium), fulvic acid content, and microbial contamination. The result is a 15g or 40g jar of resin that is genuinely shilajit, with documented purity. The 40g jar at one pea-sized dose per day is roughly a three to four month supply. The price reflects the testing and the sourcing, not the marketing.
Most shilajit on the South African market should not be sold. We tested everything we could buy, then built our own supply chain because nothing passed.

What makes them different

  • 01

    Third-Party Tested

Every batch is sent to an independent laboratory for heavy-metal screening, fulvic acid measurement, and microbial contamination checks. The certificates are available on request and updated per batch.

  • 02

    Single-Product Focus

The brand sells one product in two sizes. No range extensions, no diluted versions, no flavoured gummies. The discipline is the differentiator.

  • 03

    Pharmacist Founded

Started by South African pharmacists with the lab background to interpret a Certificate of Analysis, not just print one. The standards are practitioner standards, not marketing standards.

  • 04

    Himalayan Source

Resin sourced from altitude in the Himalayan range, where the geology and climate produce the highest fulvic acid concentrations. Lower-altitude shilajit is often substituted with humic acid extracts, which is not the same compound.

About this brand

Common questions customers ask about the brand and its products.

What does shilajit actually do?
Shilajit is a source of fulvic acid, humic acid, and over 80 trace minerals. Traditional Ayurvedic use covers energy, libido, recovery, and longevity. Modern research has examined effects on testosterone, mitochondrial function, and trace-mineral repletion. Effects typically take three to eight weeks of daily use to notice.
How do I know if a shilajit is real?
Real resin is sticky, dark brown to black, dissolves in warm water leaving a slight residue, and has a strong earthy bitterness. Powdered or capsule shilajit is often diluted with humic acid or fillers. Heavy metal contamination is the bigger risk than fakeness; ask for a Certificate of Analysis before buying any shilajit brand.
How do I use the resin?
Scoop a pea-sized amount (about 300mg to 500mg) with the provided spatula or a clean spoon. Dissolve in warm water, herbal tea, or warm milk. Drink once daily, ideally in the morning on an empty stomach. Re-seal the jar after each use.
Is shilajit safe long-term?
At normal dosing (300mg to 500mg per day) shilajit has a long traditional and modern safety record. People with iron-overload conditions (hemochromatosis), gout, or active iron supplementation should consult a practitioner first, as shilajit contributes trace iron. Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited safety data.
Why does PurePharm cost more than cheap online shilajit?
Two reasons: sourcing and testing. Genuine Himalayan resin from a verifiable supplier is significantly more expensive than what gets sold as shilajit on online marketplaces. Third-party heavy-metal testing per batch is also expensive. The price reflects what the jar actually contains, not the cheapest possible product.
How long does an opened jar last?
Shilajit resin is shelf-stable for years if kept sealed and dry. Use the provided spatula and keep the jar lid closed between uses to prevent the resin from drying out. The 40g jar at one daily dose lasts roughly three to four months.
