- A simple sugar (monosaccharide) related to glucose but minimally metabolised. Absorbed and excreted in urine where it binds to the FimH adhesins on E. coli, blocking bacterial attachment to bladder wall epithelium.

Women (and men) with recurrent UTIs wanting an antibiotic-sparing prevention option, plus people at risk of UTIs after sex, surgery, or catheterisation. NOT a substitute for medical care in severe or kidney-involved UTI.

When to use it
