Facial-Care
Facial Care: plant oils, simply done.
The reason this collection stays small is that oils are not a category that benefits from variety for variety's sake. The right oil depends on your skin type, the climate, and what you are layering it with. We stock the few that perform reliably and pair well with everything else in a routine. If you are new to face oils, this is the right place to start.
What is actually happening
Plant oils mimic skin sebum
Jojoba in particular has a molecular structure almost identical to human sebum. The skin recognises it, so it absorbs rather than sitting on the surface. That is why jojoba works for both dry and oily skin types.
Carrier oil ratios for blending
If you are blending in essential oils for aromatherapy or topical use, the standard adult dilution is 2 to 3 percent, which is about 12 to 18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. For face use, go lower (1 percent) or skip essential oils entirely.
When to use oils vs serums
Oils are occlusive: they sit on top and seal in hydration. Water-based serums (hyaluronic acid, niacinamide) need to go on first to do their job. Apply serum, then oil last in your evening routine.
Comedogenic ratings explained
Comedogenic ratings (0 to 5) flag how likely an oil is to clog pores. Jojoba is 2, sweet almond is 2, rosehip is 1, argan is 0. Coconut oil is 4, which is why it does not belong on most adult faces.
How we think about it
One oil, used consistently
You do not need a shelf of oils. Pick one that matches your skin type and use it nightly for a month before adding anything else. Jojoba is the universal starting point.
Layer with what you already use
Cleanse, water-based product (toner or hydrating serum), then oil to seal. In SA winter you may want oil twice a day, in summer just at night.
Spot treatments and oil blends
Once the basics are stable, single-ingredient oils give you a base for custom blends: a drop of rosehip into your night oil for tone, sweet almond as a gentle eye-area option.
